Medicare Supplement guaranteed issue rights mean that insurance companies can’t turn you down for a Medicare Supplement, or Medigap, policy. Insurers must cover your pre-existing health conditions and cannot charge you extra because of them.
It’s important to know when you have guaranteed issue rights because if you apply for a Medigap policy and you do not have these rights, your application may go through the medical underwriting process. You may pay a higher premium or be turned down altogether because of your health. This leaves you vulnerable just when you need coverage the most.
